Over the Aurora Fossil Museum's 50-year history, the museum has dedicated decades to introducing and educating the public about the rich fossil record of eastern North Carolina. Over the years, expansion projects have added new and exciting components. Over the last decade, with your support, we have transformed exhibit spaces to continue our mission.
We have improved our Mine and Cultural History roomsand made updates to our Marine Life, Shark, and Rock and Mineral rooms. Other projects have focused on our second-story collections space and enhancements to the Fossil Park. Roofs, equipment, and cases, OH MY!
As we look ahead, the AFM has decided to focus our 2026 end-of-year campaign on our Fossil Hall located in the Learning Center.
The Aurora Fossil Museum currently has a large inventory of fossil specimens in storage, just waiting to be utilized. Your support could make a real difference by expanding the Aurora Fossil Museum’s Fossil Hall exhibit space. This much-needed update would allow us to offer even more museum-quality exhibits to further educate visitors, researchers, and students about eastern North Carolina's natural history.
We decided to implement this campaign because we recognize that many rural households in eastern North Carolina have children who, compared to their peers, lack the same opportunities to develop curiosity and learn. By updating our Fossil Hall, we can expand our educational programs and resources to better serve our patrons, educators, and youth.
Your investment in the nonprofit Aurora Fossil Museum’s Fossil Hall Campaign will help us meet our $30,000 funding goal so we can begin implementing an improved museum exhibit environment for the next generation.

We ask our museum supporters to consider donating to our Fossil Hall 2026 End-of-Year Campaign. If we raise more than our goal for this project, we will put the additional funds into a separate account for future building repairs and updates.
