Indigenous Artifacts

Our Collections: Collections, Vertebrates, Invertebrates, Indigenous Artifacts, Rocks & Minerals

Our Indigenous and Early-American collection affords visitors the opportunity to travel back in time to learn about prehistory of local inhabitants from the 13,000 BC mammoth hunters to the initial contact with Europeans.

View the collections that include: hunting materials, pottery vessels for cooking and storage, smoking artifacts, and ornamental jewelry.

The artifacts are genuine (except for two reproductions: a projectile point and an atalal/atal thrower) and are almost entirely from North Carolina.

The majority of this collection was acquired through generous donations. Our benefactors, like us, believe the public should have access to these treasures.
